Harmony Public Schools at a Glance
Harmony Public Schools are open enrollment, Texas public charter schools, free to all students living in their respective independent school districts (ISDs) and surrounding school districts.
Harmony Public Schools operate 48 high-performing K-12 college preparatory charter schools in Texas that focus on science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) courses. There are over 30,000 students enrolled at HPS for the 2015-2016 school year, and there is a statewide waiting list of more than 38,000 students.
Harmony has a diverse student body, and focuses on underserved communities. Of the current total student population, 49.8 percent are Hispanic, 17 percent are Caucasian, 19.6 percent are African American, 13.2 percent are Asian, and 0.4 percent are Native American. Almost sixty-two percent are economically disadvantaged (in certain cities and schools, this number is higher).
The philosophy of Harmony Public Schools (HPS) is simple: Excellence is our standard.
We deliver a rigorous STEM-centered curriculum that is focused on producing excellent academic results.
These programs are designed to help our students develop the skills and educational background necessary to gain acceptance to college, particularly in science and engineering programs.
We expect every student to perform to the highest standards, and we believe that every child can achieve excellence in the classroom, and in life, if we nurture, develop and challenge them.
We also encourage significant parental involvement in a child's academic pursuits.
Not Your Average School
Harmony's theme, "excellence is our standard," reflects the high standards and expectations we have for our students, and our record of success sets us apart from other schools. What makes Harmony different?
We have an intense focus on STEM courses
We have a very engaged, hands-on approach to education, where students are directly involved in designing, building, experimenting and demonstrating - it is a project-based environment, so students get excited about learning.
We expect excellence - we provide a learning environment in which children can excel, and we encourage and expect them to do so. HPS also uses a proprietary student assessment tool to determine whether students need remedial or tutorial assistance, and to custom design such programs for individual students, where necessary.
Building on Excellence
Harmony has earned a reputation for providing high-quality education to students living in underserved communities by offering an opportunity to excel in small classroom environments. Harmony's proven model of success is reflected in the following achievements:
100 percent graduation rate for seniors
Certification of 22 T-STEM field pioneer schools
Of Harmony’s 7 regional districts, 2 were rated “5 stars” and 3 rated “4.5 stars” by TXSmartSchools.org and Texans for Positive Economic Policy. The purpose is to identify schools that “produce high academic achievement while also maintaining cost-effective operations”.
In 2014, 100% of Harmony Public Schools (HPS) districts and 95% of HPS campuses were rated “Met Standard” by the Texas Education Agency, with two districts (HSS Houston and HSA Waco) out of 26 districts statewide to earn postsecondary readiness distinctions.
Harmony was one of only 52 schools nationwide-and the only charter school-to receive Title I National Distinguished School Award
Five Harmony campuses are ranked on the Washington Post's "2016 Most Challenging High Schools"
Seven of Harmony's campuses made U.S. News & World Report's "Best High Schools 2016 Rankings"
Four schools ranked in Newsweek's 2013 list of "Top 500" High Schools in America.

"My dad lived in the same home for over 30 years and recently Harmony Public Schools have opened a new campus about a block and a half away. Before the school even opened, there was a knock at my father's door. Not just to give a flyer, but they wanted to meet the people in that community. Not only has Harmony provided my father - a former English teacher - with an avenue to share his skills, but now at age 78, he feels he is part of that Harmony campus and part of the charter school movement."
Former State Senator Leticia Van de Putte, Texas
"You are showing a whole lot of people that it doesn't take a lot of money to develop an excellent program. But it does take the triad that you have: students, dedicated teachers, and parents. Put all three of these together and excellence will result."
Dr. Larry G. Spears, Chair, Science and Engineering Fair of Houston
"This highly successful education model places emphasis on math and science and equips our own students with the skills to compete in a global environment."
Former Mayor John Cook, City of El Paso
"The commitment on behalf of the staff at Harmony is incredible. That other schools learn not only from the educational curriculum, but really from that dedication that comes from the leadership at Harmony."

"Harmony Charter Schools have amassed an impressive record of numerous state, national and international academic achievements by their students. Congratulations on this remarkable decade of academic excellence."
Dr. Marsha Farney, Former State Representative

Alice is exceptionally happy with the prep for competitions the school offers. She is earnestly involved in Science Olympiads, Math Olympiads, Math Counts, and UIL. For these competitions, the teachers offer endless chances and time to study and gain any needed help."
